Spider-Man — the second prestigious limited edition Marvel figurine entirely handmade in the UK under Disney Licence by Border Fine Arts.
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, Spider-Man, aka, Peter Parker is a web-slinging high school student who gained superhuman strength and the ability to cling to most surfaces — as has been spectacularly depicted in this figurine — after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Spidey quickly learned how to put his super powers to good use and has been adored by fans ever since.
The European division of Disney has been steadfast in their support and critical acclaim of the limited editions in our Marvel collection.
Producing such high-quality, intricate pieces has been a lengthy and painstaking process right from the outset, with the concepts for the figurine requiring approval by Disney before beginning the sculpting which took Peter Mook over 200 hours to complete, working alongside Ray Ayres and his design team. Before the finished sculpt was submitted to Disney for final production approval, the same procedure was followed to ensure the accuracy of the painting detail.
Produced in a limited edition of only 500 pieces worldwide, each piece comes with its own individually numbered certificate of authenticity and is entirely handmade by the highly-skilled craftspeople in our Langholm studios — every figurine is hand cast in a complex system of custom-made moulds before being demoulded and prepared for the painting process, which can take one of our accomplished painters around five hours to complete for each piece.
From his first appearance in Marvel Comics’ Amazing Fantasy #15, Spider-Man has become another iconic character of super hero status and is therefore a fitting addition to this prestigious collection.
